BATTERY HENS, A SHOCKING SITUATION
September 24, 2013
I was told 7,000 battery hens came from an egg production unit somewhere in Co Laoise. I was asked if I could take the injured and sick ones that were being transported to my area from a collection place in Portlaoise.
I have taken in fifteen. Six have injuries, mostly to their legs because it is where they are grabbed by the legs when they pull them out of the cages. They are all anaemic, loss of feathers, sore, inflamed areas and totally traumatized, frightened of the slightest movement.
Four are very poorly and have just shut down. It has all been too much for them. I am giving them the very best care, and willing and praying that they find the will to live again. Hopefully the next photo’s you see will show an improvement.
