TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF SANCTUARY
Following discussion with the Department of Agriculture, the Sanctuary will be closed until further notice due to the situation with the Coronavirus and also the fact that Avian influenza ( non virulent) has been confirmed in a poultry flock in Co.Monaghan, with 3 other flocks being investigated. However the highly pathogenic Avian influenza is spreading across Central Europe and numbers are steadily increasing.
We need to keep both ourselves and the birds in long term care here safe. We will of course be looking after the birds here with the love and care they always have.
The Sanctuary Vets at the Well Pet hospital, Carraroe, Sligo will take injured birds at the moment but this may change as new safety measures are introduced. If you find an injured bird, please ring the practice on 0719304978 BEFORE arriving at the premises and you will be given guidelines to follow.
It is a legal requirement to report a suspicion of bird flu to the Department of Agriculture. You can contact your local DAFM or call the Avian hotline on 0761064403
The Sanctuary will be ready to open again as soon as it is safe to do so. In the meantime we are available to give advice by phone or email.
From all at Little Wings, we hope you and your birds stay face in the coming weeks.
